To be considered as a Staff Writer, please prepare five (5) original headlines and one (1) article based off of one of the submitted headlines. Headlines do not have to be UCLA-related; applicants are encouraged to show creative range and knowledge of pop culture with their submissions.

To be considered as a Graphic Designer, please prepare three (3) .jpeg or .png files that showcase your graphic design or illustration skills. This can include cartoons, photoshops to go with headlines, poster designs, or anything else you think shows your abilities. Extra points for humor!

Graphic Designer

Graphic Designers are responsible for creating graphics for satirical articles, the layout of the newspaper, and creating comics. Graphic designers should have working knowledge of graphic design programs and are invited to pitch headlines during weekly meetings.

Staff Writer

Staff Writers are responsible for pitching, writing, and editing satirical news articles. In addition to attending weekly meetings, staff writers are expected to help workshop other articles during table-reads and offer their thoughts on all pitched content. Each staff writer will be assigned to an editing group, where they will work closely with a managing editor to strengthen content and voice.

  1. Is there any other way to help out or join? I know spring qtr is closed for applications but I have been really wanting to get involved in something like this, I only recently found you guys

    • Hi! We accept applications in fall quarter. Other than that, we usually tend to slow down during the summer so there’s unfortunately not much for now. We really appreciate the interest! If you know anywhere we can give out newspapers that would be a big help.
