Six Self Love Exercises That Even Your Dumb Little Brain Could Do

With the most stressful weeks of the quarter beginning, it’s important you’re prepared for the onslaught of hate, both from within and without. Here are a few strategies you can use to help mitigate this for yourself.

1. Positive self-talk

Start off simple. What’s one thing that you like about yourself?

…Go ahead, take your time.

We can come back to this one. It’s okay.

2. Gratitude journaling

Dust off those aspirational journals you bought the summer after eighth grade and relive those days of childhood you chronicled. God, you were young then. So young and full of hope. You had no idea what hardships these next years would bring; your problems were small and petty. Remember Jessica? Now you do. Where did all the time go?

Write down three things you’re grateful for in the empty pages you have left (to cover up the emptiness in your heart!).

3. Manifestations and affirmations

You’ve seen these on TikTok, right? Hell, even Oprah’s into it! All you have to do is think really, really hard about something you want and it’ll be sure to come to you. Probably. And if it doesn’t, it means you’re just not trying hard enough, you dumb, stupid, dumb–

4. Retail therapy

Who needs real therapy when you can just buy things? You can get that sweet, sweet hit of dopamine with none of that hard work of self-reflection. Plus, if you shop online, you get an extra hit when you unwrap that package and stare blankly at the useless thing you just bought. Oh wait, that’s a mirror!

5. Lie awake at night contemplating your failures, unable to sleep for your transgressions against god and the human race

This is a classic. Never fails. Unlike you and everything you’ve ever worked for!
