Rejecting Donald Trump from art school wasn’t the best idea.
Listen, I know that Donald Trump’s art is absolute dogshit. Watching Donald Trump try to draw an early 19th century silhouette depiction of a pre-pubescent girl’s body was the single most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. I mean, even he’s so embarrassed about it. Why else would he claim it’s not his?
But I don’t know, I’m just kind of worried that something bad might happen. With all of those bottled-up feelings that Don has, I’m worried that he doesn’t have an outlet to express himself. I know it’s far out there. I mean, when has there ever been a time in history when a conservative figure has taken power during a recession and then proceeded to ignore the country’s Constitution while promising to become a life-long leader through using military force and internment camps against racial minorities? But something about this makes me a little irrationally worried.
“Don’t you think that we should maintain the integrity and historical importance of artwork?” Yes, I do. Art is one of the single most important and long-lasting cultural artifacts, and keeping its reputation pristine is important. But it’s also a way to express frustration, sadness, and other complicated and scary emotions. Maybe all Donald Trump needs is a place to vent out his hatred of people of color, disabled people, queer people, women, Muslims, Democrats, environmental activists, college students, union members, artists, children, teenagers, people less rich than him, people more rich than him, and really anyone that isn’t him or talking about him. And why can’t that place be a Color-by-Number?
I’m just saying, not all art has to exist for the purpose of making the world a better place. Sometimes, art can exist just to exist, or to prevent Fascism from taking over the world. Basically the same thing.
