WESTWOOD – Beloved fantasy author J.K. Rowling turned to Twitter this morning to announce that deceased UCLA basketball coach John Wooden is gay. “I’m so glad I’m finally able to share John’s story, and so proud that this underdog fan favorite can serve as a powerful example of what a queer man can accomplish on and off the court,” Rowling tweeted about Wooden, who visited the grave of his deceased wife every day until his own death. “The intricate world of Harry Potter is a safe space where wizards and witches of all identities should feel free to express their truest selves. I am so proud that John Wooden can inspire the next generation of LGBTQ Bruins ready to board the Hogwarts Express.” Later, Rowling tweeted out an apology for killing off controversial professor Gene Block during the Battle of Hogwarts.
