WESTWOOD—After less than a week of operation, officials at UCLA dining have deemed Hedrick dining hall “insufficient” to support the demands of its recently-adopted De Neve menu. In accordance with plans, the entire De Neve at Hedrick staff along with several employees of the original De Neve at De Neve will be relocated to Covel under the new name “De Neve at Hedrick at Covel”. Said spokesperson John Waterson: “What ultimately led us to this decision is Hedrick’s severely outdated equipment.[…] It seems that many of us were so focused on improving De Neve that we neglected to see if Hedrick could handle such a high rate of pastas and grilled cheeses. With Covel, we have the advantage of operating at a location that currently no one goes to, thus the equipment remains virtually unused.” With regards to future plans for on-campus dining, Mr. Waterson stated that “Eventually we may have to combine all the dining halls together into something of a ‘russian doll’ scenario—one menu, within another, within another. If such a situation arises, we’ll aim to keep most of our more popular amenities, [i.e.] De Neve’s atmosphere, BPlate’s salad bar, the restrooms at Feast, etc.” In such a case, morning food service would then be supplemented by mini coolers filled with apples and yogurt, noted another official.❖
